On Saturday, 1 March our P&F and Year 1 parents did a fabulous job arranging Christ the King School's annual Welcome Event.
It was wonderful to see so many Christ the King School families at our Welcome Event on Saturday, 1 March at Sherwood Magpies AFL and Fair Play Kitchen. It was a great turn out of children and their families who enjoyed a great afternoon of food, music and games.
Many volunteer hours go into planning and delivering the Welcome Event, and it simply would not have been possible without:
Wendy Chiem who took on the role of Year 1 Welcome Event Coordinator. Thank you, Wendy for working tirelessly and enthusiastically to deliver an event focused on family-friendly fun.
Kim Lyons who supported Wendy with the organisation of the event.
Our Year 1 parent cohort who rallied enthusiastically to fill a range of volunteer roles pre-event, on the day and post-event. They hosted our families with warmth and truly exemplified the CTK spirit to ensure the smooth running of the event.
Jasmine Thorncroft for designing our beautiful invitation and colouring in competition, creating the 100s Number Boards and supporting a multitude of pre-event tasks.
Georgie Petrie for her incredible support with pre-event and set-up logistics.
Sarah Barnsley for her beautiful photography, capturing the spirit of the gathering.
P&F Executive and General Committee members for assisting with a variety of tasks before and on the day.
I would also like to thank our four generous family businesses who sponsored the $200 cash prizes for our 100s Number Boards:
Congratulations to our four winners Sofia K, Jordan T, Stu C and Matt R.
The P&F is now calling for expressions of interest for any parents and guardians in the current Prep cohort (who will be next year's Year 1s) who would be keen to organise the Welcome Event in 2026. Please contact the P&F Executive if you'd like to find out more.
School closed Thursday, 6 March and Friday, 7 March
As you are aware, Tropical Cyclone Alfred is threatening to produce significant rain, strong winds and flash flooding in our community. This weather is expected to continue over the coming days.
Following the advice of the Queensland Government and Queensland Catholic Educatio Commission, Christ the King School will be closed on Thursday, 6 March and Friday, 7 March. Please do not send your child/ren to school.
We always act in the interest of the safety of students, staff and the wider community. This decision is based on an assessment of the current conditions and risks associated with movement in and around our community.
We will continue to provide updates and information to our families via email, BCE Connect, Parent Portal and social media.
NAPLAN testing
On Wednesday, 12 March students in Year 3 and Year 5 will begin their NAPLAN testing. While NAPLAN results are one measure of each learner's growth, our teaching staff utilise a variety of evaluation tools throughout the year and across the various facets of our holistic education programs to provide a comprehensive summary of your child's learning progress.
We wish our students all the best for this testing period and congratulate them on their efforts.
Prep enrolments for 2026
Do you know someone interested in enrolling their son or daughter in Prep for 2026? Please let them know they should get in touch with Christ the King School before the Easter break. From Monday, 10 March, I will be conducting Prep 2026 enrolment interviews for students.
Any current families who have a child due to start in 2026, please ensure you have completed an enrolment form and we will contact you to arrange an interview time.
Parent-School communication
Please feel free to drop by the school and say hello at any time. Our parents’ support is valued and appreciated. Join in where you can. Communication is the key.
If you have any concerns about the school, it is important to deal with them as soon as possible so that your concern does not become a big problem. Please feel welcome at any time to make an appointment to discuss any issue of concern with myself or one of the Administration team.
Always approach the class teacher first if it is a problem relating to your child’s class. Teachers can often correct, relatively quickly, what might appear to be a big problem.
The interaction and commitment of our parent body helps to make CTK School such a great place to be. There are numerous groups of parents who assist the school in many ways, from the classroom to formal advisory bodies. In the coming months, there will be a number of different ways for parents to be involved in our school.
Stay safe in the coming days, and have a great fortnight,
Damien Sullivan
Prayer for Protection
Loving God,
As we prepare for this cyclone, we ask for Your protection.
Keep our families and communities safe,
Give wisdom to those making decisions,
And strength to those helping others.
Calm our fears and fill us with peace,
Trusting that Your are with us through every storm.
Amen.
