Nurturing young minds through the primary years

If you've ever wanted more information about child development and cyber safety, these topics will be addressed by industry professionals in an information session jointly held by Christ the King School, Graceville and St Joseph's, Corinda.

The 'Nurturing Young Minds through the Primary Years' information evening will be held on Tuesday, 15 October at 6:45pm.

Guidance counsellor and psychologist, Marlies Rodriguez will provide information on:

  • what to explect at different stages of your child's development journey
  • how to build a secure attachment and foster resilience
  • when and how to seek additional support

She will be joined by Queensland Police Service's Senior Constable Lisa Easton , who will discuss ways in which parents and caregivers can prevent and manage online safety challenges that children might face, as well as how parents and guardians can guide their children to understanding these and empowering them to take action.

The event will be hosted at St Joseph's Hall and will include light refreshments.

We encourage any parents and caregivers in our CTK School community to register their attendance. It's also an opportunity to talk with other parents, ask questions and discusses these issues in an important forum.

Prep 2025 Orientation Day

On Wednesday, 16 October, CTK School will welcome almost 50 new Prep students and their families for their Prep Orientation Day. This is an important step in their preparation for commencing school in 2025. Our Prep staff will make our newest students feel at ease with developing confidence while their parents and guardians hear a little about what makes CTK School such a special community from a host of speakers.

We will finish with a morning tea for our new families.

Queensland school immunisation information for Year 6 students

In Week 2, all Year 6 students will receive information from Queensland Health regarding immunications in Year 7. Please check your child's school bag or notes folder for the promotional postcard. These immunicastions are offered to all Year 7 students in state and non-state schools to protect against human papillomavirus (HPV) and diptheria-tetanus-pertussis (whooping cough) (dTpa).

Parents and guardians will be provided with further information in 2025 about the process of having their child vaccinated in Year 7 through the Queensland School Immunisation Program.

Healthy food helps fuel our students' learning

Health experts regularly remind us of the importance of having a good breakfast and nutritional lunch to help give children the best opportunities to learn while at school. Please ensure your child has a healthy morning tea and lunch packed each day, and talk with your child about what's going into their lunchboxes. This is especially important in our younger grands where students are encouraged to eat fruit and yoghurt (or other dairy products and proteins) before eating other foods in their lunchboxes.

Already this term we are seeing students presenting to the school office showing they have eaten all the food in their lunchbox.

Arriving late? Don't forget to sign in

I've written a lot about the importance of children arriving on time to commence the school day by 8:30am. When students arrive after this time, they miss the opportunity to be well-prepared for the day's learning and unfortunately this can impact on the learning of other children. Teachers are understanding that there may be some occasions where a student is late to school, but this should be an exception.

For student protection reasons, CTK School has updated its requirements for students arriving late to school.

If a student arrives at school after 8:30am, they MUST got to the office accompanied by a parent or guardian to sign in. The office staff will then give the student a late slip to hand to their class teacher, which lets the teacher know they have been to the office.

If a student arrives late to school unaccompanied, we will contact the parents or guardians to seek an explanation.

What do to with old CTK School uniforms

With the closure of the on-site CTK School Uniform Shop in Term 3, the school no longer has a facility to support the sustainable recycling of old CTK School uniform items.

After discussions with the P&F Advisory Group, a buy/sell/swap group has been created on Facebook for CTK School families to advertise and/or search for second-hand, pre-loved items. Only current CTK School uniforms and uniform-related items may be advertised in this group (items that do not reflect the current school uniform may not be advertised and will be removed).

You can find the Christ the King School, Graceville Second-hand Uniforms Buy/Sell/Swap page online.

When joining the group, you will be asked three membership questions. Please ensure you answer these and familiarise yourself with the Group Rules before advertising any uniforms or uniform-items.

Old Uniforms and those Not Fit for Donating or Re-sale

To assist in the sustainable disposal of redundant uniforms and uniform items that are not suitable for re-sale or donation, we encourage families to use the uniform recycling option available at The School Locker. Items that should be going to recycling include any pre-2023 uniforms, such as:
  • old Prep shirts (with screen printing on the back)
  • old navy hats
  • old red Prep hats
  • old sports polos (panelled sky blue/nay polo and panelled House colour polos)
  • used CTK School crew socks
  • old sports jackets (red and navy)
  • old zip fleece jackets'
  • any other old CTK-branded uniform items not fit for re-sale as seconds
We would appreciate it if families did not bring any of the above items into the school office as donations.

Reminder about 2025 enrolments – all year levels

I'd like to thank parents and guardians who have communicated in writing their intention to leave Christ the King School at the end of the 2024 school year. We are currently arranging the school's staffing for 2025 and I would like to remind parents and guardians of the importance of being made aware of family transfers and movements for next year.

If you have not yet advised the school of your intentions, please do so in writing by Friday, 18 October.

I appreciate your assistance in this matter.

Prayer

Saint John the 23rd was a Pope who famously wrote a letter to the world – Pacem in Terris (Peace on Earth). St John 23rd wrote that true peace from God is an order that is founded on truth, built up on justice, nurtured and animated by charity (love), and brought into effect under the auspices of freedom.

God of Justice, fill our minds with your peace.
Grand that we may be people of peace in our words and actions.
May justice, love and truth be seen in our world and all its people.
We ask this prayer in Jesus' name,
Amen.
